Stable Managment

Poudre River Stables practices safe stable management and strives to set the highest quality for horse-care.

Living Environment

The stable is cleaned daily, including the barn and sheltered pens, providing the healthiest environment for the horses.  The lanes and fields are constantly mowed and trimmed to maintain maximum functionality and reduce safety hazards.

Fencing

Horses will be horses, and things will break.  Poudre River Stables checks daily to ensure Repairs on the turnout fencesfencing is safe and secure, and quickly makes any necessary repairs.  Hot wire is used on all horse enclosures to reduce damage and risk of escape.

Footing

Weather can be just as unpredictable as horses, and Poudre River Stables adapts accordingly.  The arena and roundpen are dragged every month to ensure proper footing and reduce the risk of injury.  Any snow storm and the tractor will be out, plowing away.  Ice pellets are spread during the winter and the grounds are constantly mowed during the summer.

Feed

Horses are fed three times daily, once in the morning and evening, and once late night during “night stables.”  Clients have the option of feeding grass or mix (see policy here).  Each horse also is given a specific Calvin grazinggrain regimen, individually tailored to the needs of each.  Automatic waterers are available in the daily turnouts and is refilled each day in the barn and pens.  Heated water is provided during the winter.

Safety

Late night (around 9 or 10pm) the horses are checked on and given a small snack.  Someone is always on the premises in case of emergency.  Poudre River Stables also adheres to all the rules and guidelines set forth by Larimer County and the state of Colorado.
